Reel to Reel system (Mounting system dedicated to tapes such as TAB/COF)

Product feature

  • Various paste, such as resist, solder and adhesive can be printed on flexible substrates such as TAB/COF.
  • It is most suitable for high aspect ratio printing or fine pitch printing by use of the patented technology (pressurized mask separation system).
  • The feed speed and the feed length can be freely set by the servo motor drive.
  • The reflow system consists of 7 zones for pre-heating, main heating and cooling, and the temperature profile can be easily set and controlled by use of an evenly heated plate.
  • The system is structured in a way to minimize the load to the feeding reel and the rewinding reel. Furthermore, loading and unloading of the film is easy to minimize the set up time.

● The system is roughly divided into six zones.

1. Loader (feeding unit)
2. Screen printer with pressurized mask separation feature
3. Mounter (with position correction by image recognition)
4. Reflow oven using evenly heated plates
5. Unloader (rewinding unit)
6. Transfer unit (to control tape feed length).

Composition of Reel to Reel

● Process flow

1. The tape (flexible substrate) which is rolled in a reel is sent from the loader to the printing machine.
2. The solder paste is printed on the flexible substrate, and the flexible substrate is sent to the mounter.
3. At the mounter section, IC, LSI, chip parts and connectors are mounted.
4. At the reflow oven section, the solder paste is heated and cooled to make connection between the components and the flexible substrate.
5. The unloader rewinds the tape (flexible substrate).


● Explanation of each device

1. Loader / Unloader

  • The tape reel can be easily attached or detached, and maximum diameter of the reel accommodated is Φ600mm.

2. Transfer unit

  • The transfer unit receives the image recognition position data feedback from the printer against the preset feed length (mm). And stable control is provided while correcting the feed length of the tape.
  • Tape feeding method:The tape is transferred by clamping the sprocket hole at the tape edge by a grip.

3. Screen printing machine

  • Pressurized system (Tackiness of the paste inside the mask opening is improved).
  • Cross squeegee: Equipped with two kinds of squeegee head, 380mm length in Y direction and 270mm length in X direction
  • Servo cleaning unit (The cleaning time is saved because the cleaning material is automatically cut at the beginning and the ending position).

4. Mounter (Model M7 from i-PULSE)

  • Because the machine reads the defect mark on the tape before parts mounting, there will be no wasted mounting on the mark detected tape.
  • Because multiple mounters can be connected in series, the system can flexibly cope with high mix production.

5. Reflow Oven

  • Because the oven employs a hot plate type heater which does not generate air flow, heating can be accomplished without having impact to the components on the tape.
  • In case the line stops for a certain period of time, the cooling shutter operates and starts cooling the tape. Therefore, you need not worry about the tape being burnt and cut due to heating.
  • When the line restores it operation, restoration is done by gradually applying preheat.
  • Because the reflow oven is structured in a way that the “hot plate” section can move, the oven can accommodate various circuits having different pitches.
